One of the most idyllically unspoiled regions of Germany where forest, mountains and open spaces tend to dominate the landscapes, Lower Saxony is a mecca for nature lovers. Deceptively, however, it is also one of the country's most important commercial and industrial centres, playing host to the likes of Hanover, Salzgitter, Wilhelmshaven and Brunswick to name just a few. Lower Saxony followed the nation's pattern of stiff property price increases over the past couple of years, although things have been slowing at least slightly since mid-2014. Nevertheless, movement in the right direction continues and heavy demand from international and local tourists helps keep demand solid for much of the year.
