The region of Emilia-Romagna in Northern Italy is one of the richest areas in Italy. Its appeal to holiday home buyers (and wealth) stems largely from the beautiful town of Bologna, which boasts a high quality of life and a huge cultural history, while lively resorts, such as Rimini with their Blue Flag beaches, bring in thousands of tourists every year. Vineyards are popular among investors too. Indeed, Emilia-Romagna, together with the Veneto, Puglia and Sicily regions, produces 50 per cent of Italy's wine.
