Transport and connectivity is often one of the more important factors used to narrow down a search. If you are commuting then good rail or road access is vital. If peace and tranquillity is your thing, then you don't want to be a stone's throw from an airport.

Answer these questions and you will clarify your transport needs:

• How do you normally get around and will you be able to do that in the new area?
  
  
• How easy will it be to get work?
  
  
• Are there cycle paths and footpaths on the roads?
  
  
• Does there seem to be traffic problems?
  
  
• How noisy will it be? Being woken each morning by the sound of people honking their horns, trains hutling by at 90 mph or jet planes taking off is not everyone's cup of tea.
  
  
• Can you easily get on to the motorway system?
  
  
• Does there appear to be many taxi services around?
  
  
• What is the local public transport like?
  
  
• Are there good bus services?
  
  
• Is there a mainline train station nearby?
  
  
• What rail network does it connect you to?
  
  
• Are there other transport systems within easy reach, such as the tube?
  
  
• Is it difficult to get to an International airport?
