Description of Martinique
While most of the Caribbean now feels like it’s been developed and travelled to death – as much of it has – Martinique has somehow held onto its wild, rugged and undiscovered ambiance. Unsurprisingly, this last remaining corner of the real Caribbean has experienced a colossal explosion in property values over the past few years – 20 per cent since 2011 being a realistic estimate.
This kind of demand of course breeds healthy rent yields of around the 6 per cent mark, though what’s truly surprising is how relatively painless the taxation system is for foreign buyers – it’s pretty much the same deal as in mainland France. High-end tourism is Martinique’s mainstay and property owners these days are finding themselves able to choose their own price and double it.
