Sri Lanka’s growth into one of the world’s favourite holiday destinations has been nothing if not impressive. However, a further update to national laws in 2013 rendered it impossible to buy land outright, bringing in a new restriction limiting foreign investors to 99-year leases. Taxes and fees vary between 5 per cent and 10 per cent, which isn’t bad considering the astonishing demand for holiday lets all year-round.
