Search in Scotland

Aside from the methods of search that have been described on previous pages, there are a few points to note about house hunting that are particular to Scotland. However it is worth remembering that these points are only valid if you are actually looking to buy in Scotland. We do not recommend searching in Scotland if, for example you wish to buy in Hampshire:

  • Many solicitors in Scotland operate similar services to estate agents.

  • If you go to any of the major cities, you should be able to find Solicitors' property centres. These act as a showcase for a range of solicitors and often display information on a wide range of property types. They will then pass you on to the appropriate solicitor, who will handle viewing and negotiations.

  • Builders advertise a lot in local newspapers. They will place pictures and artists impressions of the developments to attract your attention. As in England if you decide to go ahead, you generally deal with a sales office that represents the building company. This may or may not be on location. In Scotland, the prices are usually fixed, so the first person to offer the purchase price will get the property.
