Decision time

Print Contents Prev Page

If you think you have found something you like, ask to go and have a look at the place again, but without the pressure of the estate agent with you. This way you can take your time and view with a clear head. Try to picture the place with all your possessions in it and refer back to your notes on your ideal home.

Make sure you're not just fed up of this whole house hunting thing. If you've been searching for a long time, it can be tempting to compromise your ideals and buy somewhere not altogether suitable, simply because you can't be bothered to do any more hunting. That is not really a very good reason to buy somewhere.

Don't rush in two-footed. God gave us all a head and a heart and you should listen to them both when making a decision of this magnitude. Take stock and be certain you're doing the right thing. If you have any doubts whatsoever, take some extra time to think it over. It's not fair on the seller to pull out halfway through and it's not fair on yourself to end up in a place that isn't going to make you happy.

If you are sure and you know it's what you really want then go ahead, make them an offer. But remember, just because you decide you want it, there is no guarantee that you will end up buying the place. A lot can still go wrong.
