There are certain situations when moving without help would simply not be possible. Sometimes it makes obvious financial and practical sense to do it yourself and get it over with. A lot of the time, the decision is not as clear-cut as that. Just remember that there are two sides to every story, and every move you make should be well thought-out, so that you can decide what really suits you best:

Physical possessions
How easy will it be to get your things out of your current home and into your new one?
You may have a study that is absolutely full of books kept on a wall length, ceiling high book case made from a solid hardwood, perhaps an oak dining table and chairs, or that giant new bed which you treated yourself to on your anniversary. Getting these things out from your home and into the van can be a challenge, especially if you have to navigate stairs and tight corners at any point along the way.

How much have you got?
Big houses full of lots of things make for more work than a Spartan bedsit. Obvious really, but the amount of stuff you have to move can affect the time it takes, the number of trips required and how much physical work you have to do.

Health & temeperament
The physical demands of moving home are not to be underestimated. Loading and unloading awkward and cumbersome object that aren't designed for carrying, driving a van and then doing it all again can be pretty exhausting. People with any physical health complaints should seriously consider whether it is worth taking any risks with themselves. Who is going to finish off the move if you put your back out halfway though?

Moving can be a mental strain as much as a physical one. If you are that way inclined, thinking calm thoughts and counting to ten lots of times may not quite be enough to stop you losing your temper when your head is jammed against the wall, your fingers are trapped and that four-seater settee will simply not GET OUT OF THE WAY!

help
Do you have any kind friends who will offer to help you move? If so, you are lucky and you should always be quick to take them up on their offer before they realise what they have let themselves in for. If the answer is no, then ask yourself whether you have any unkind friends, neighbours, acquaintances, or anyone else you could pressgang into doing you a favour. Many hands make light work in this instance and the extra help will be well worth it.

If you have been put off from the DIY approach you should probably read about removal services. If you think that this way suits you just fine, then use SiteFinder to locate the websites of Removals and storage companies and Self-hire van companies.
